Quick Rhyme

If I could be a bird long enough to take me there
I’d be on my way to people who care
People whose eyes were not made just to stare
But eyes that are warm and forever fair
Fairness is something that somehow seems rare
It seems people don’t care whose emotions they tear
So since I’m not a bird and I wear my heart bare
I will cover my thoughts, my own feelings to spare
My hurts will be hidden, my temper won’t flare
And I’ll dream of a place, God only knows where

Through the Madness

Sometimes she seems to wander
on a path that’s all uphill
Amidst the climb are winding curves
whose purpose is to kill
She’ll close her mind to the steps she’s taking
Why? Well, I’m not sure
Are they slow and sure?
Will she endure?
Or are they quickly taken, roughly shaken, and into a hidden lure?

But there’s no time now for the foolishness
of the feelings falling round her
Yeah, the falseness of the feelings
try so readily to blind her
She’ll close her mind to the steps she’s taking.
Why? Well, I’m not sure
Will frustration wind its web around her?
The pain of untouched sorrow find her?
Will tears of torment try to bind her, to the flooding finish that surrounds her?

She longs long for comfort
through the madness
To ease the heart
ravaged by sadness
But she’ll close her mind to the steps she’s taking.
Why? Well, I’m not sure
Shame and sorrow are all that find her,
Somewhere lost in fear that blinds her.
Conversation takes his leave, as loneliness begins to weave

Understanding’s far away now
she’ll just turn and take her bow
All help is for the other brother,
wonders if he’ll ever love her
She’ll close her mind to the steps he’s taking.
Why? Well, I’m not sure.
But the fears expressed are just swept under
a storm within a distant thunder
the questions asked remain a wonder, quickly passed, then thrown asunder

Please listen now, she must be heard
She needs to know… is she absurd?

Wanting More

Trapped in sorrow
Long to be free
Sinking in sadness
Harder to see

Search in the dark
For love in his face
Looking for ways
To end the disgrace

My strength alone
Too far from home
Difficult places
No love, no traces

Search in the dark
For love in his face
Looking for ways
To gain an embrace

Reach for a hand
No help, no stand
No word to give
No life to live

No light in darkness
No joy in the face
Looking for love
Would settle for grace

If all is said
I’d rather be dead
All is done
His battles won

Is There Ever a Time?

© 1988 susan mucklow

Is there ever a time
When it is too late
And the sorrow expressed
Is just something to say?

Is there ever a time
To let go of a dream
When what you thought
Is just not what it seemed?

To leave too soon
To leave before all love is gone
Would prove to me
That the time was wrong
To stay too long
To stay beyond a love that’s died
How will I know
Is the timing ever right?

Is there ever a time
When truth has escaped
And honesty
Can no longer wait?

Is there ever a time
When love turns away
Intimate hearts
Can no longer relate?

To leave too soon
To leave before all love is gone
Would prove to me
That the time was wrong
To stay too long
To stay beyond a love that’s died
How will I know
Is the timing ever right?

Touch of Reality

© 1989 susan mucklow

Trying hard to rise above
This change that’s come so fast
Turn around, say goodbye to love
What we were is now our past

No chance for shattered romance
It’s out of control this time
Don’t look back for a second glance
Holding on would be our crime

The final days of love are here
Shades of truth are shining through
A subtle touch of reality
Rearranged our point of view

Must be brave in letting go
Let the end become a start
Goodbye will be a chance to know
The defenseless state of the heart

And though sorrow had its season
There will never be regret
The end is not without a reason
Won’t let my foolish heart forget

The final days of love are here
Shades of truth are shining through
A subtle touch of reality
Rearranged our point of view
